Tony Fitzpatrick
Critical Praise
Excerpt

Tony Fitzpatrick is always referred to as “larger than life.” He is a very large man with tattoos and an unusual history, which includes some time in prison for car theft. He is also an actor (Philadelphia), a poet with several books of poetry to his credit, a radio talk-show host and a remarkable artist with a gift for imagery and detailed drawing in both small and large format. He lives and works in Chicago, and he makes frequent forays to mount exhibitions all over the country, including one at the Sue and Eugene Mercy, Jr. Gallery. The prints Fitzpatrick gave the school are from a new series upon which he embarked in the Richmond Art Center’s printmaking studio. Using the bird imagery he had been exploring for some time, he began to include the classroom symbols and scenes, which suggested themselves to him in this academic environment. ---The Mercy GalleryTony
